The Methodist Ladies’ College (MLC) congratulates the 2022 VCE Grade 12 graduates who have achieved outstanding results.
This cohort of 12th graders faced many challenges during their high school years and persevered through disruption and illness to make the MLC community immensely proud.
This year’s results demonstrate the importance of providing a wide range of learning and well-being opportunities, as students excelled in all subject types to achieve peak scores.
Principle results
– 18 students (7.26% of the cohort) achieved an ATAR of 99 or higher, in the top 1% in the state
– 26.61% of students achieved an ATAR of 95 or higher, in the top 5% of the state
– 42.34% of students scored an ATAR or above 90, in the top 10% of the state
– There were 16 perfect study scores out of 50, in 10 subjects, which includes perfect study scores in Biology, Business Administration (2), English (3), Food Studies, French, Legal Studies ( 2), additional mathematics (2), Mathematical methods, Specialized mathematics, Psychology
Diana Vernon, Director said:
“Congratulations to all of the students receiving their ATAR scores today. Once again, this cohort has exceeded expectations after a very eventful few years of schooling.
“While the world assumes we are all out of the pandemic, students still felt the impacts when they got sick during the various waves of COVID throughout 2022.
“MLC is proud of our college’s learning culture that helps our students adopt a growth mindset and gives them the confidence to pursue their individual interests, from STEM to the arts and everything in between.
“MLC teachers and staff prepared and empowered students for life beyond the classroom. Although we are extremely proud of the results, we remind all of our students that an ATAR score does not define them.
“Our goal is to impart the qualities of resilience, social justice and self-confidence so that they can pursue a future that truly excites them. Importantly for those wishing to enter college, there are many routes to achieve their goal.
Grade 12 student Violet Zheng pursued her passion for coding in her later years, saying:
“I took it upon myself to pursue different subjects outside of the traditional VCE options and I studied the university subject, algorithms. It’s not a popular choice to take a college-type subject in high school, but I really enjoyed it. It gave me practical skills for my areas of interest outside of the classroom.
While 12th grader Natalya Kay challenged the stereotype that students need to study STEM subjects to succeed:
“I’ve always been interested in what’s going on in politics and society, so pursuing humanities subjects felt natural and played to my strengths.”
Head of Year 12 boarding school Tess Worley said the breadth of academic opportunities available at MLC was one of the main reasons she was attracted to Wangaratta’s move to boarding school at Kew:
“There were so many selections I could choose from, which gave me the opportunity to find topics that I was really passionate about.”
Year 12 students undertaking the International Baccalaureate (IB) will receive their results on Tuesday 3 January 2023, of which MLC has 31 students. VTAC will release full ATAR results for schools incorporating IB scores on Wednesday, January 4, 2023.
