Season eight will “sort of reinvent the show a bit,” director and executive producer Michael E. Satrazemis said in a companion show. Talking Dead: The Walking Dead 2022 Universe Preview special back in August. “Getting a whole new palette to work with, visually, and a lot of these kind of low country beach areas in the background, that’s something our characters [will] navigate.”
The anthology series Tales of the Living Dead, which featured “six original high-stakes life-and-death stories with an all-star cast of new and familiar characters set against the walker apocalypse,” debuted in August before wrapping its run in September. However, it is not yet known if a second season of Tales… received the green light from TWDof the AMC network.
It should also be noted here that the fallout The Walking Dead: World Beyond, which debuted in 2020, ended its planned two-season run in December 2021. “It’s not like, ‘Oh, we’ll see what happens in Season 6,’ or anything. that is. We are going to do two seasons. But, at the same time, it’s great to approach it knowing what you’re working towards.
So what’s next in The Walking Dead universe?
A host of familiar faces face new projects…
the original TWD the show may be over, but that doesn’t mean we’re done with our characters just yet.
Let’s start our overview with The Walking Dead: The Dead City, which will feature Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan reprising their roles as Maggie and Negan, respectively, and roaming the zombie-infested streets of… New York? The haters are set to reunite in the new Eli Jorné-directed series, which premieres in April 2023 and “imagines Maggie and Negan traveling to a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long cut off from the mainland,” according to an official AMC description. . “The ruined city is filled with the dead and the inhabitants who have made New York their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty and terror.”
You want more? Well, how about another spinoff of the original TV series that focuses on Daryl, everyone’s favorite crossbow-wielding biker? Title Daryl Dixonthe action will cross the pond to France as Daryl (played by Norman Reedus) somehow ends up in Paris following the events of The Walking Dead. The big question of “how did Daryl get to France in the middle of a zombie apocalypse?” will be addressed, apparently:[Daryl] wakes up and ends up somewhere on the European continent and tries to piece together what happened,” AMC President Dan McDermott recently said of the new show’s premise. “How did he get here?” How will he get home?

While Clémence Poésy and Adam Nagaitis have both been tapped to lead the new show opposite Reedus, one actor who won’t feature is Melissa McBride, who plays Carol in TWD. The spin-off was originally supposed to focus on both Daryl and Carol, but McBride dropped the project in April because “the move to Europe became logistically untenable for Melissa.” However, Reedus teased that “familiar faces” will return in Daryl Dixon, which is slated to premiere in 2023.
And last but not least, it’s the long awaited rick and michonne series. First announced in 2018 as a film series, the six-episode project – which will reunite Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira (who is also credited as co-creator and co-writer) in their lead roles. – has since been whittled down to a spin-off TV series set in a new, previously unexplored location.
Billed as an “epic love story”, a synopsis for rick and michonne reads: “This series features an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Separated by distance. By unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find themselves and who they were in a place and situation they’ve never known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims ? Winners? Without each other, are they even alive – or will they discover that they too are the walking dead?
Manufacturing on rick and michonne will debut in January, with the show becoming the third TWD spin-off set to debut in 2023. The end of The Walking Dead? Some might say it’s only just begun…
